When it comes time to enrol their daughters in school, some parents shop around for a school that reflects their values and beliefs. Some parents simply want their children to attend the school they matriculated at. The overwhelming majority of parents balance what the school has to offer with how much it costs to attend. Should a campus prove to be a good value for their money, they will register their interest. Maybe all of these reasons are why the Lady Eleanor Holles School receives so many applications:

  • per-term fees are low compared to schools like North London Collegiate School
  • this school has a relatively small student body; only 977 students
  • the school's curriculum mirrors the National Curriculum in structure and content
  • Lady Eleanor Holles School's campus is loaded with sports amenities
  • students enjoy taking part in the school's music and drama programs

Is your daughter athletically inclined? Or does she prefer singing in a choir? Maybe she is looking forward to joining this school's long list of illustrious alumni. This list includes every mover and shaker from politicians to actresses and activists. Adding one's name to such a roster would surely signify she's made her mark on the world. Let's find out how we can make that happen.

About The Lady Eleanor Holles School

The Lady Eleanor Holles School, affectionately called LEH, is an independent day school for girls aged seven to 18. It was founded in the early eighteenth century under the will of its namesake, Lady Eleanor Holles. Thirteen miles from the London city centre, the 24-acre school site rests in the middle of Hampton, Middlesex. The campus boasts a new Arts Centre and a Learning Resources Centre. For the athletically inclined, the school offers a sports hall, an indoor swimming pool and a Boat House.

Indeed, this school's vast catalogue of sports offerings is one of its main draws. Students may join the Lacrosse team or play hockey; they may even contribute to the school's ongoing success story of netball and rowing wins. Other selling points include participation in Model United Nations, Young Enterprise and a vast array of charitable initiatives. Finally, LEH students may join the Combined Cadet Force (CCF) to master discipline.

LEH aims to encourage each of its 977 pupils to “develop her values, individuality, the strength of character and purpose, and her particular talents, so that she may not only gain personal fulfilment but be a responsible member of society.” This mission statement is not dissimilar to the one issued by the Henrietta Barnett School.

LEH students consistently score well on exams. It's not unusual for upwards of 80% of LEH A Level candidates and 96% of GCSE candidates to receive A or A* marks at their respective examinations. In addition to its record of high academic achievement, LEH maintains their reputation for excellence in sports and music. This school offers opportunities for girls to grow in co-educational spaces with the Hampton School for boys, situated right next door.

LEH hosts Open Events that provide you and your daughter with the opportunity to tour the school site. At that time, you will have the chance to meet and talk with students and teachers.  You'll also have a chance to chat with the school's senior staff before deciding whether you would like to apply to the school.

Opening mornings are held on different days for the Junior and Senior schools. However, LEH is generous with its event planning. It allows two days apiece for each school to accommodate all of their visitors. To plan your visit, keep your eye on the school's calendar. They usually host these events in November. You should contact the school registrar's office to book your place for the Senior School and Sixth Form events and entrance exams.

Lady Eleanor Holle School Admissions Policies

Girls looking to get into The Lady Eleanor Holles School at 7+ or 11+ must fill out and return a registration form before the start of December. Along with the form, you should pay the school's posted registration fee. You will also need to submit two identical passport-sized photographs in your registration package. All of this should take place one year ahead of your proposed date of entry.

Likewise, girls entering Sixth Form must also complete and return their registration form and pay their registration fee. They too must submit two identical passport photos one year ahead of their planned entry date. For Sixth Form students, the deadline for registration is early October. Note that similar schools, such as Francis Holland School, Regent's Park, have similar deadlines.

The Lady Eleanor Holles School Interviews and Examinations

If your daughter is entering at 7+, she will first sit two tests in English and Mathematics. LEH will assess your child's academic potential on these results. If she does well, the school will invite her to participate in a group activity day. She will be joined by other candidates so the staff can assess all the girls' social skills and attitudes in one fell swoop.

If your daughter is entering at 11+, she will also sit tests in English and Mathematics. She will further be tested in Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning. If LEH thinks your daughter will thrive at their school - socially as well as academically, she will be invited back for an interview.

Finally, girls entering at 16+ will write a general Data Analysis paper and four subject-specific papers in their declared A-Level subjects. Note that your daughter may choose an A-Level subject she has not studied before. Should that be the case, she will instead write an entrance examination paper for that subject.

With all of these examinations, the school aims to measure future students' potential. They're not interested in your daughter's rote knowledge of any subject. As in the lower entry levels, if your daughter does well on her exams, she will be invited to interview senior members of LEH’s staff. In this sense, the Lady Eleanor Holles School follows the same admissions procedures as many other schools across England.

LEH does not specify any particular way girls might prepare for their admissions exams and interviews. Still, your daughter may benefit from revising her current school work or writing timed practice tests at home. For an extra boost, consider checking out the number of resource centres available online, or engaging a test prep tutor. Good luck!
